Did you know recycling your trash can help with the toilet paper shortage? Residents are urged to continue or increase recycling efforts as recycled materials are being used to produce essential resources, like toilet paper.
Legislators have increased the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s funding for recycling from $2 million last year to $15 million this year, according to a press release from EGLE. Jack Schinderle, director of the Materials Management Division at EGLE said, “The materials collected from drop-offs and curbside collection programs are used in manufacturing new products, such as toilet paper and shipping containers.” St. Clair County residents have recycling through curbside service in most municipalities. Drop off recycling is available at the Smiths Creek Landfill, where paper, plastic, and aluminum and tin cans are accepted.
