The month of August is National Tree Check Month and the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development wants to make sure that Michigan residents are helping protect trees from the long-horned Asian beetle. According to the department, the best line of defense against the devastating pest is taking ten minutes and check if there are any signs of damage of trees. Some things to look for are dime sized-holes, shallow scars in the bark, dead branches, sawdust material on the ground by the tree and the beetle itself.
