Earth Day is April 22. While the yearly Earth Fair has been cancelled, and public in-person observance isn’t happening this year, there are still ways to commemorate the annual tradition. Sheri Faust, President of Friends of the St. Clair River, said that the day is just as much about learning as it is about action, and there are plenty of ways to learn. Her group wants residents to ask, “Does Safe at Home mean safe for nature”? Faust suggests reflecting on our families’ interaction with nature during quarantine. They have set up an anonymous survey where they can gauge the environmental impact of quarantine. Faust said, “We are fortunate that green spaces and parks are still open to us, but while parks are minimally staffed or not staffed at all, it is important for park users to pick up litter and take their trash out with them. ‘Pack it in, Pack it out’ is a familiar mantra to many seasoned park users. We have the added responsibility right now to pack out all our trash.”
