The Community Foundation of St. Clair County has gotten started on fulfilling grant requests from their Covid 19 Thumbcoast Regional Response Fund. After starting just a few weeks ago with initial donations from Eastern Michigan Bank, DTE, and other donors, the fund had grown to around $200,000 as of early April. The Foundation has wasted no time in putting the money to work. Randy Maiers, President and CEO of the Community Foundation, said that the process has been expedited and that the committee makes their decisions via conference calls to quickly process requests. Randa Jundi-Samman, Board Chair, added that efforts are coordinated with other agencies so as not to duplicate efforts. The most recent round of grants helped with producing Personal Protection Equipment along with supporting organizations that provide basic nutritional and health services.
