With the recent flooding in Southeast Michigan and locally here in St. Clair County, residents are reminded to stay safe and healthy both during and after a flood. Reports from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommend…throwing away food that may have come in contact with flood or storm water including any canned foods that are bulging, opened or damaged. This will help prevent illness from food. Local authorities will tell you if public water is safe to drink or to use for cooking or bathing. Also, make sure to be on a lookout if you are under a boil advisory. Other tips include removing mold if that occurred after the flood, wash your hands, and be cautious of your pet’s health as well.
