The annual Christmas with a Cop event was held Tuesday night at the Meijer store in Fort Gratiot Township. This year, 102 children from across St. Clair County had an opportunity to shop for Christmas gifts, accompanied by a law enforcement officer. The event was sponsored by Meijer, Moran Chevrolet, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #129 and many individuals in the community. The kids were allowed to spend $100 on gifts for themselves and their family members. The shoppers were nominated by administrators and teachers from schools across St. Clair County, based on need or achievement. St. Clair County Prosecutor Mike Wendling said, “He is so thankful for the generosity of the Fort Gratiot Meijer store, Moran Chevrolet, FOP Lodge #129 and several other members of the community, who donated the money to make this event happen,” Once the kids were done shopping, they were also provided with all the ingredients for a great Christmas dinner, including a turkey. Deputies from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, officers from the Port Huron, Marysville, Yale, and Clay Township Police Departments, officers from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Homeland Security Investigations and troopers from Michigan State Police took part in this year’s event.
