Local garden centers and nurseries are gearing up for opening after a spring that was wrought with uncertainties. With a new Executive Order signed last week, garden sales are now permitted after previous limitations. Susan Kutchey, owner of Cooky Kutchey’s Farm Market in Wadhams, said that their business is prepared to use precautions to allow for social distancing of their customers and allowing for online ordering and curbside pickup. Kutchey said that it is a huge undertaking as all of their products are time sensitive and different. It has taken them a lot of time to figure out how to get their products onto a virtual platform. Kutchey said they are working to make it safe for shoppers to browse their flower selection when they open. Spring is always a stressful time for farmers, but the social distancing and extra precautions have made this a particularly anxious time for local growers. At this point, Mother Nature is in charge of the date that most garden centers open, as buyers and sellers anxiously await warmer weather.
