Local college students, Sophia and Aishah Ahmed, have spearheaded EyeAid, an effort to get protective goggles to frontline healthcare workers in Detroit. The Fort Gratiot sisters started EyeAid with other Blue Water Area natives who are now attending Harvard and Columbia universities. Goggles, a common item for college science students, can be sent to EyeAid, where they will be prepared and delivered to the hospitals that are caring for COVID-19 patients. EyeAid has put the call out to college students nationwide to donate their lab goggles and the response has been good. Sophia, a 2017 Port Huron Northern Graduate and current junior at Columbia, told us that she and her sister, Aishah Ahmed, a 2016 Port Huron Northern graduate and senior at Harvard, along with the rest of the group have “been overwhelmed with support from college students all over the country and are excited to see it grow over the next few weeks.” More information can be found at https://eyeaiddetroit.wixsite.com/eyeaiddetroit
