The Blue Water Sierra Club will gather at Marysville’s City Park at 1:30 p.m., on Sunday, February 11 to hike as a group to view and discuss the place where the infamous Enbridge Line 5 exits the United States and crosses the St. Clair River to Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. Line 5 has been viewed by environmentalists as a dangerous pipeline that carries both oil and gas from Superior, Wisconsin, across both Michigan peninsulas, to Sarnia. In 2017, pipeline owner Enbridge, a Canadian company, announced it will build a protective tunnel for the section under the St. Clair River. Sierra Club and other organizations have worked for several years to seek retirement or re-routing of the pipeline currently crossing the Straits of Mackinac. Line 5 was built in 1953. The Blue Water Sierra Club outings and meetings are open to the public and are a $1 fee per person to cover outing expenses.
