Nominate individuals doing great things in Port Huron for the Spirit of Port Huron award

In 1986, the Port Huron City Council started a community service awards program in an effort to recognize and show appreciation to Port Huron’s outstanding citizens who have contributed their time and effort toward making Port Huron an even better place to live. The “Spirit of Port Huron” awards program will be held on June 11th. Awards will be given in eight different categories such as Brotherhood, Cvic, Cultural, Economic Progress, Good Neighbor, Lifetime Achievement, Heroism, and Youth Service. St. Clair County Homeland Security will host a Citizen Academy

St. Clair County Homeland Security will host a Citizen Academy. Starting on April 10th their will be three different academies to choose to join a Law enforcement, fire/ems and an emergency management academy. These Academies will give participants 1st hand knowledge of the group they have chosen, taught by responders from the field. At the end of the training participants can apply to be on a volunteer Community Ready Team, where they may be deployed to different areas in the County to support responders in the field. Free fishing this weekend!

Twice a year the Michigan Department of Natural Resources offers a free fishing weekend. The free fishing weekends scheduled for 2018 are February 17 and 18 and later in the year on June 9 and 10th. All fishing license fees will be waived for two days. Residents and out-of-state visitors may enjoy fishing on both inland and Great Lakes’ waters for all species of fish.
